The author of “The Life That Matters Manifesto," Adam Landrum also founded Made to Matter Coaching.
Adam believes purpose doesn't require changing the world. It starts with changing YOUR world, whether that’s your work, community or how you show up each day.

In Episode 156, Adam Landrum says you don’t need a complete restart to find meaning

Today, I’m talking with Adam Landrum, an entrepreneur turned executive coach who found renewed clarity and direction after turning 50.

Adam spent more than two decades building and running an advertising agency before selling his business around his 50th birthday and stepping fully into coaching instead.

What followed was not retirement, but a purposeful pivot that aligned his work with who he is and what matters most to him.

In our conversation, Adam shares what he learned about purpose, identity and courage during this transition. Here are a few key takeaways you’ll hear in this episode.

  • First, Adam explains why purpose is not a mysterious concept that has to be discovered from scratch. Rather it is something most people already know deep down and simply need to uncover.
  • Second, he talks about why so many men struggle in their 50s and beyond. It is not because they lack opportunity, but because fear of failure and fear of judgment hold them back.
  • Third, Adam describes how meaning often can be found by reshaping what you are already doing, rather than completely blowing up your career or life.
  • Finally, he shares why slowing down, letting go of identity tied to work, and becoming more comfortable in your own skin are some of the biggest and most surprising rewards of life after 50.

Adam founded Made to Matter and, as an executive coach, he works works primarily with entrepreneurs and individuals navigating the second half of life.

What stood out to me in this conversation is Adam’s belief that purpose does not require changing the world. Instead, it starts with changing YOUR world, whether that’s your work, your family, your community or simply how you show up each day.

After turning 50, Adam found meaning in helping others get unstuck, clarify what matters most, and courageously pursue lives that feel aligned and fulfilling.

He believes the answers people are searching for are already inside them. Having the right coach and asking the right questions can unlock those answers.
