In my Bible study this morning, I was reading in Exodus how God gave Moses very specific instructions for building the tabernacle.
He gave the exact dimensions of how big various elements were going to be and how they should be assembled. In fact, God went into great detail while giving his instructions.
However, in Exodus 35:30-35, God also gave a specific sense of purpose to an ordinary man named Bezalel.
- First, God called Bezalel by name. (He was a unique individual.)
- God filled him with his spirit. (Which gave Bezalel a passion for a specific job.)
- God gave him the skill, intelligence and knowledge to engage in a specific type of craftsmanship. (God uniquely equipped Bezalel to carry out the assignment he received.)
- God inspired Bezalel to devise specific artistic designs as well as ways to cut stone and carve wood. (Bezalel had a vision as to how something should look before he started making it.)
- God inspired Bezalel to teach his unique crafting skills to other people.
In Exodus 36:1 notes, “The Lord has put skill and intelligence to know how to do any work in the construction of the sanctuary shall work in accordance with all that the Lord has commanded.”
The next verse, Exodus 36:2, describes how God stirred the hearts of people in whose mind the Lord had put skill, to come to do the work. Have you ever had a desire to do something specific that just doesn’t go away? Perhaps God is stirring your heart!
Deep in your spirit, you sense God has given you a specific purpose. He has likely inspired you with ideas concerning things God wants you to do or create. He has put people in your life to teach you how to do those things.
More importantly, he wants you to teach your God-given skills to other people.
That’s how seasoned citizens can not only have purpose for their lives, but also pass their legacy on to others.
